REM First Type
The requirements to become a REM First Type are as follows:
- Holds a degree in science, engineering, technology or architecture from a college, institution or university recognized by the Commission and has at least two years of working experience;
- Holds a diploma in science, engineering, technology or architecture from a college, institution or university recognized by the Commission and has at least ten years of working experience;

Is registered under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 [Act 138] as —
- a Graduate Engineer or Engineering Technologist with at least two years of working experience;
- an Inspector of Works with at least ten years of working experience; or
- a Professional Engineer;

Is registered under the Technologists and Technicians Act 2015 [Act 768] as —
- a Graduate Technologist with at least two years of working experience;
- a Qualified Technician who holds at least a diploma with at least ten years of working experience; or
- a Professional Technologist; or

Is registered under the Architects Act 1967 [Act 117] as —
- a Graduate Architect with at least two years of working experience;
- an Inspector of Works with at least ten years of working experience; or
- a Professional Architect; and
- a Malaysian citizen;
- demonstrates knowledge of the requirements of the Act and Regulations that satisfies the Commission; and
- has not been convicted of an offence involving fraud, dishonesty, or corruption.
The applicant shall successfully complete REM First Type training before applying for REM Second Type training.
